25F cooler on average. The reflective material in the Sunshades are responsible for dramatic temperature differences in cars parked in the sun. Temperature differences of as much as 40F (25C) have been measured but you should experience a baseline average temperature reduction of about 25F (11C).

What materials are used to make Sunshades?

Sunshadesare made of a special gold/silver metalized polyester film, laminated to a thin layer of closed-cell foam, with a black polyester film back (for blackout extra cooling effect) sewn around the edge with a black cloth binding. This laminate is sturdy, light, and reflective, and it has excellent insulating properties to protect your interior and keep your car cool.

How are Sunshades made?

Sunshades are custom cut using the latest in computer-aided cutting technology. Then, they are sewn around the edge with a black cloth binding.

In order to fit properly, Sunshadesmust be bent around my rearview mirror. Will this harm my Sunshades?

Bending your Sunshades to fit around your mirror is all a part of the simple installation process. Sunshades are designed to fit around the rearview mirror in order to block out as much sunlight as possible.

Which side faces out, the black side or the shiny, reflective side?

The shiny, reflective gold side faces out.

Does the Sunshadeblock UV rays?

The Sunshadesmaterial is designed to reflect the sun away and it does keep harmful UV rays from penetrating and damaging the dashboard, electronics, upholstery and can keep your Model S up to 40 percent cooler.

How should I store my Sunshades?

We suggest you store the Sunshadesrolled upNOT folded. Folding the Sunshade could compromise the integrity of the material and may cause premature wear.

Do you have patterns for side and rear window Sunshades?

Yes, we have side and rear window patterns for the Model S. Simply select from the pull-down menu (above the orange “Add to Cart” button) which specific sunshade you’d like to order or simply choose the complete sunshade set.

Is there a pattern for the panoramic roof?

Yes, there is a pattern for the panoramic “sun” roof that comes in two pieces to cover both the front seat and back seat areas. You can order it in the pull-down menu. NOTE: this comes asa two-piece set (covering both parts, front and back, of the panoramic roof); you cannot order just one of the two pieces. Also, you can order a complete set with or without the panoramic roof as labeled in the pull-down menu when ordering.

What is the recommendedway to get the suction cups on sunshades to best affix to the windows?

It canhelp to install thesuction cupswith the doors closed or tohold the door while installing to make a solid connection. We’ve heard of customers wetting the suction cups for better suction. Also, try to press directly behind the suction cup in order to get a firm grip/suction on the window too.

My sunshades are curled up a bit, is there a way to get them to flatten a bit?

You might want to roll the sunshades in the opposite direction (black side out) if they have been rolled up for a while. This will help to flatten out the sunshades and make them easier to install and fit better against the windows. Storing them rolled backward every once in a while will also help with this.

I’d like to order a unique combination of sunshades not offered in the pull-down menu above, what do I do?

Simply select the individual sunshade option you’d like and select the “Add to Cart” button. Next, you’ll be able to view your shopping cart to confirm your selection. Then, simply go back to shopping on the same HeatShield product page and select the other(s) and “Add to Cart” – now you’ll see the combination you desire waiting in your shopping cart. “We all love the ability to cool down our Model S using the smartphone app. Temperatures in closed cars left in a parking lot on a hot day can easily exceed 100 F. Whenever possible I try to find a shady place or a parking ramp to keep things a little cooler. Another way to help control the temperature is to use windshield reflectors also known as sunshades…The Heatshield sunshade is custom-cut for your Tesla Model S making it a near perfect fit. The material on both sides of the product was smooth and even. They have a nice stiffness to them that allows you to bend them into place for maximum coverage.

I recently tested the Tesla Model S custom HeatShield Sunshade. I positioned my Model S in the driveway under a bright, cloudless, southern sky just before noon. The outside temperature was 78 F, which turned out to be the high for the day. The temperature inside my Model S was 74F when I installed the heat shields. I used my iPhone app to check the interior temperature at various times with the reflectors installed and with them not installed. Here are the results…

Here is what happened to the inside temperature when I removed the shades. Keep in mind the car was not repositioned, the outside temperature remained a constant 78F and the sky remained cloudless.After removing the reflectors, the temperature soared to over 90F in less than sixty minutes.The heat shields kept my Model S significantly cooler.

Overall there ended up being a 14 before and after difference. That doesnt sound like much, but the experience of entering a car thats 83F vs. 97F is drastic. My sunglasses did not fog up when the shields were installed, but instantly did so at the higher temperature. Keeping the car cooler means you will use less battery when you do turn on the AC, which will help with range.

On a hot and sunny day these babies will definitely keep your car cooler…”
